Verdict:

Penda wins the annual Josh Christopher award for the player who most looks like an NBA player on film, even if you are not sure their actual results on the court warrant it.

Penda had a solid season and had some good moments on tape driving in and finishing, but with some inconsistent touch and no real ability to separate that make him seem like he’d be more than likely a tertiary ball handler at the next level.  And I don’t want to get overly caught up on Synergy stats that are informative, but missing a lot of context without a much deeper film dive.  But he also doesn’t really have a stand out skill or play type.  The numbers match what I saw which was a lot of him taking passes and driving opportunistically.  But even as a slightly “older” FIBA prospect he wasn’t used in the P&R or ISO much at all.

Still, he’s interesting and impactful enough to warrant something in the 20-30 range.  He’s young.  A solid defender.  And he shows enough potential shooting and driving that you could see him developing into a nice all around player who can fill a role in your rotation and who doesn’t violate the “Presti rule” and take anything off the table that opposing teams could use to gameplan against you in the playoffs.
